A lunchtime affair

We're usually a lil crappy on some days during lunchtime, where (cheap and) good food does cheer us up at times.

Dats uncle foo and anqila! She looked exceptionally peeved though. Ha. Caught her unaware.
Duck rice + Soup of the day + Veg for 1 pax + Chinese tea... All for $10++!
Oh and I muz mention dat poor cat is eating her dabao nasi lemak, of which she insisted dat it was... nice. Call me out for lunch next time ba! We'll go eat good food then!!! Wahaha......

Deutschland Rules!

i muz say, the World Cup hasnt really started... till the Germany-England match!

and check out my 1st class seat! Table Number ONE! thanks to francis!
well, i've made some interesting (let's juz call them) observations during the match too!
1. German boys are quite handsome!
2. There's nothing worth watching about England, except Beckham during the 5 seconds of half time footage of him.
3. Rooney appeared to run faster in the Tiger Beer ad than in the match itself.
4. And he looks like Shrek.
5. And finally, Fabio Capello bears a striking resemblance to... Dilbert.
bye! i'm off to watch the HOLLAND match tonight!

new dOzer!

oh my tian! i've found another game to help my dear sister waste time! cookie dozer!!! (will the cookies spoil if i leave them alone for too long???)

of Chinese goods....

A man went on a business trip to China and wanted to buy some gifts for his kids. He went to a shop and found a nice looking CD player. Wary of buying inferior goods, he asked the shopkeeper, 'What would happen if this does not work?'

The shopkeeper quietly points to the only sign in English that reads, 'GUARANTEE NO SPOILT'.

Feeling assured, he paid for the CD player and return to his hotel. He tried to use the CD player after returning to the hotel but it would not even switch on.

He quickly returned to the shop and asked for a refund or an exchange for another unit. When the shopkeeper refused to give either, the man pointed to the sign assuring him of a guarantee.

The shopkeeper then said, 'Brother, you are in China. We read from the right to the left.'

of marriages and auspicious dates!

juz had a chat with cindykoo, and i am feeling v happy for her! she is getting married in 3 months time! Hubby is someone she's known for the longest time! u see, Cupid has a way of getting them together isnt it? well, at least he is someone whom she knows first as a friend, and then love blossoms! (and not some random guy picked up from a gathering of strangers at a steamboat session?)

anyway, cindykoo went on and on about getting married this year... cos next year is uber bad year for her chinese zodiac sign. "really meh?" i dun tink she's really serious abt the "clash with uncle 太岁 thingy". she's never into it all the while...

in the meantime, i am so getting excited o'er her wedding! CONGRATULATIONS princess cindy and her prince charming! am sure that it will be the wedding of THE YEAR! (everything else fades in comparison.)

"i'm not a glutton, i am an explorer of food."

wat an apt quote! for me today that is...

day started slightly on a wrong footing.. reached the (entrance of the) mrt station a tad too late, so i decided to flag a cab. well, like i said, $15's not too much a price to pay for comfort and speed yea?

had tea and mayo sugar glazed bread for breakfast...

there's no lunch today, cos of a offsite ''meeting'' in town, so kind jesline ordered desserts, and almost naturally, i joined in.. had 大麦 to fill 0.1% of my stomach to sustain me to 3pm...

chartered a bus to bring all of us to town for our offsite ''meeting''! it's like an excursion! asked for a 19-seater, the bus company provided a 45-seater at no extra cost! and our destination.. CAROUSEL!

i cant believe there's actually a QUEUE outside the cafe even before high tea started. these people no need to work?!?!

~view from outside... macarons are going at $2.90 PER PIECE...~
~our table setting, there's 2 of such tables!~~my first round, i had 4 portions of that sashimi, subsequent rounds were focused on the food. =) ~
~anqila attempting to contaminate the choc fondue~
**********

and juz when i thot i can go without food for the next 3 days, i was wrong! we ended meeting by heading to holland v for desserts...

today is indeed a food exploring day! ARGHS. (i can feel cat violently shaking her head as she reads... OOPS)

Aaron's Bday Bash!

@ Out of the Pan, 21 Jun 2010.
i really really need to blog real time, so that i will rem to even jot it down...

first of all, having to stay back in the office for work is really not cool at all, and wat makes it worse, i have to work with someone with totally little EQ and ZERO common sense. zzz.

somehow i managed to complete my due diligence (in fact, we did more for that woman-who-shall-not-be-named), took the train (cab too ex) and reached by slightly past 8! thank God i have beautiful frens who waited for me for dinner! although i am pretty sure they are juz procrastinating over wat to order, but i chose to tink of them as nice people. =)

the advantage of having a big group of ppl is that i get to eat ALL flavors of dessert crepes! and 1 waffle! uber delicious. rum and raisin got us high!

only sad thing, i actually didnt order the peking duck crepe. anqila said it's their signature dish. =(

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AARON! u never fail to entertain us with ur jokes and ahem, eyebrows! haha......

World Cup frenzy!

Things a girl (particularly me) does during a soccer match:

1. Ogle at the handsome men running helter skelter over a ball.
2. Check out the latest soccer boots in fashion. (Beckham used to don a very bright silver pair)
3. Talk big. About how the players should have kicked such that they score, while secretly know that they themselves haven't run a mile in their entire lives (minus the compulsory 2.4km run in schools)
4. Sip bubble tea, especially that from KOI.
5. And camwhore. That's me with The Husband so oblivious to me, I could complete an online LV purchase using his money. :)

fOOd blOg: tampOpO

i cant believe it! we actually tried out tampopo, the place which sells BLACK PIG! (note: it aint ordinary pork, it's black pig's pork!) arghs.
if u actually choose the non-pork stuffs, they are pretty ok. even the fried porks are ok... but not the soupy ramen with pork. the soups are cooked with some pig ribs, and boiled for a v long time till perfection, or at least they thot so...

while waiting for our delicious food to arrive, we had no choice but to scrutinise the menu, a page of which consisted of the different parts of an oink and where they land in the different dishes we eat. awwww.
i would say, tis shall be a place that unless i crave for weird tasting food, i would never step foot into it again. zzz.

parking fine!

we have this weird habit of sneaking up the windscreens of cars who have parking fines strapped onto their wipers... and the other day, we caught sight of tis:

"parking against traffic flow"

first of all, the car was in a PROPER parking lot along a small road. and i am pretty sure the driver had left a valid parking coupon in the car too.. in any case, tis silly mistake had cost him a whooping $50.
moral of the story: park properly. in no time, u might even be fined for parking 5cm outside the designated lot's markings.

cOin dOzer part 2

i am seriously keeping myself entertained with this silly game! look! my bear is looking very frightened as he approached the drain!

mommy's birthday..

... was a simple affair at home. but i guess sometimes, it's simplicity that's heartwarming.

we had steamboat, something that i have all the time. but steamboats at home are always VERY healthy and full of vegs. the only thing ''unhealthy'' on the table has to be my BEEF. nonetheless, it was yet another VERY filling steamboat dinner! haha..
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY 21ST YEAR OLD MOMMY!

Happy Father's Day to all Daddys!

Can I borrow $100?

Tim knew his father was an important lawyer who worked most nights and weekends. So he was disappointed but not surprised when his father didn't attend his last soccer game of the season.

That night he got up the nerve to interrupt his dad's work to ask, "How much do lawyers make?"

Annoyed, his father gruffly answered, "My clients pay me $300 an hour."

Tim gulped. "Wow, that's a lot. Would you lend me $100?"

"Of course not," his father said. "Please, just let me work."

Moments later, he heard his son sobbing in the other room, and he called him back. "Son, I'm sorry. If you need some money, of course I'll lend it to you. But can I ask why you need it?"

Tim said, "Well, I've saved $200, and if you lend me a hundred, I'll have enough."

"Enough for what?"

"To buy an hour of your time so you can come to our banquet on Friday and see me get the most valuable player award. Will you come?"

His father felt like he'd been stabbed in the heart. For the first time, he realized the cost of his priorities. None of his clients needed him as much as his son, and nothing he could do as a lawyer was more important than what he could do as a father. How had he missed that insight?

It's always difficult to balance job demands and family needs, but the test of whether you work too much is simple: Are you able to be the kind of parent your child deserves?

Few people look back on their lives and wish they'd spent more time at the office. Far more wish they'd spent more time with their kids.

juz like the palm tree...

'Tis not the softer things of life
Which stimulate man's will to strive;
But bleak adversity and strife
Do most to keep man's will alive.
O'er rose-strewn paths the weaklings creep,
But brave hearts dare to climb the steep."

Myojo or Nissin??

This is one of my fav instant noodles since the day instant noodles were introduced into my life.
But today, I've discovered the greatest mystery, comparable to Sir Stamford Raffles discovering the lion looking animal on Singa-Pore!!!

On the back of my packet of noodles... It says "manufactured by: NISSIN". How come?!?!

Steve Jobs Takes a Stand - AMEN!

(excerpted from Marc Estes' site)

Every once in a while you come across a profound statement made by a prominent leader that makes you realize that there are still great people in the world today. Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple put his entire reputation on the line by taking a very bold stand regarding the issue of pornography and the decision to block all sites from any of his products. In a world filled with people who would criticize this move and label him a narrow-minded, free speech control freak, I would like to go on the record publicly as saying, “You have got my loyalty and respect!” Here are some thoughts taken from Breakpoint’s website:

Jobs has made it clear that he wants to keep pornography off Apple products as much as possible. Obviously Apple can’t control everything its users do, but it can make porn scarcer on its products, and it has done just that.

A British newspaper, The Guardian, reports, “So insistent is Apple [on this policy], many magazine publishers developing ‘apps’ for the new iPad . . . have had to self-censor.”

As you might expect, this has triggered a frenzy among some critics. Ryan Tate, a writer for the Gawker website, sniped at Jobs about suppressing his customers’ “freedom,” prompting Jobs to respond, “Yep, freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom.”

When Tate replied that he didn’t want “freedom from porn,” Jobs answered, “You might care more about porn when you have kids.” In a correspondence with a consumer, Jobs went even further, speaking of his company’s “moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone.”

How refreshing it is to see someone who actually gets it—that yes, there are those of us who prefer to be free from the storm of smut that assaults us from every television, computer, and phone screen. The supply of pornographic material is so overwhelming that access to it is certainly not an issue of “freedom” anymore, if it ever was.

Jobs has pointed out that people who want to see porn on their phones, and who want easier access to it on their computers, can easily get all they want if they buy other companies’ products. But as he said in a press conference, “That’s a place we don’t want to go—so we’re not going to go there.”

What Jobs seems to understand, and what his critics seem to be ignoring, is that there’s so much more to pornography than just issues of economics or free speech. It shouldn’t even need to be explained, but apparently for some people it does: Pornography is an ugly, poisonous, degrading business for everyone involved, whether they’re making it, using it, or selling it.

As my colleague Kim Moreland recently mentioned on our blog, The Point, new studies are demonstrating yet again just how dangerous and addictive it can be. It tears at the fabric of marriages and families and of society itself. Its use is connected from everything to higher divorce rates to human trafficking to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Aside from the occasional reference to protecting kids (which is enough), Steve Jobs didn’t go thoroughly into the reasons for his policy. But for whatever reason, he truly is demonstrating corporate responsibility, the kind that we desperately need more businesses to show in this sex-obsessed society.

May he continue to stand by his principles, and may his tribe increase.

not exactly a good week

i had a nightmare yesterday night. and the night before. there were vividly scary. =( in times like tis, when u really duno who to trust, trust in the one true God.

Things that made me happy...

The recent spate of events have left mr feeling emotional (according to a certain friend). I'm simply tired juz by reading comments, be it positive or negative.

Tried staying neutral, but I guessed I'm juz a millimeter away from crossing the line to becoming defensive. C'mon, we all stand up for what, or who, we believe in right? And I'm almost led to think that my comments, or at least those of a minority are gonna change things for the better. Well, I was wrong.

In any case, I'm truly thankful that there are indeed people who care enough to fly all the way 7 hours to encourage me.

And as the self motivators have aptly put it, I'm supposed to think happy thoughts and do happy things. And I can't think of things any happier than ... Food. (oh forgive me cat...)

GSS hits the TCC too! Ended up having 1-for-1 dinner. Swapped the "premium coffee/tea" (read: normal coffee) for some real good Oreo choc frappé. Try it!

More happy food or things to come!

You Are Why
You are a very philosophical person, and you're happiest when you're able to sit and think for long periods of time.

You're interested on everything on a deeper level, and you aren't content until you've thought about something thoroughly.

You believe that often we act too quickly without taking time to reflect. You can learn a lot if you sit with your thoughts.

People may think you're a bit slow moving, but they don't realize how quickly your mind is racing.

food GLORIOUS food!

i've been told i eat too much... really meh? *raises eyebrows*

all my past weeks of eating less is for this week... of irregular eating. dinners on 2 of the AC days ended me up at the C-nai HK Cafe, at katong and east coast park respectively. not the other HK cafes, there are many diff brands. but the C-nai one.

east coast park is cool cos they have some live band performing! i wonder if they are paid. standard not bad, comparable to timbre anytime.

and the recommendation of the day: milk tea float (with a scoop of ice cream that is). never knew such a drink exists. superb-licious!
**********
RAMEN PLAY @ 313
wandered into this contemporary looking shop in the basements of 313... next to udon, i love ramen! and since i was hanging out with people who dun mind pork, in i go! hahah...

they serve mini ramen sets, complete with a side dish and a drink, $11.80+++. gyoza is delicious, takopachi stuffed with meat is fantastic. even the spicy ramen and that piece of very fattening pork tastes good, especially after the days of YTF.

all is well EXCEPT for the drink. my green tea looks miniature beside the ice lemon tea. both are tea, why so different!!! =( well in any case, apart from the mini green tea, it's really worth a try!
