FOP 2009

"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name." ~Ps 100:4~

good ole' advice from a song

"The Sunscreen Song"
It is what sounds like a commencement speech, set to music. In fact it is not a real commencement speech, but rather a column that appeared in the Chicago Tribune on June 1, 1997 entitled "ADVICE, LIKE YOUTH, PROBABLY JUST WASTED ON THE YOUNG" by staff writer Mary Schmich.

**********

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of 97...Wear sunscreen

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh never mind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you cant grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked...You're not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you.

Sing.

Don't be reckless with other peoples hearts, dont put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss.

Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes youre ahead, sometimes youre behind...the race is long, and in the end its only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch.

Don't feel guilty if you dont know what to do with your life...the most interesting people I know didnt know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still dont.

Get plenty of calcium

Be kind to your knees, youll miss them when theyre gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you wont, maybe youll have children, maybe you wont, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary...what ever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either - your choices are half chance, so are everybody else.

Enjoy your body, use it every way you can...dont be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, its the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Dance...even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you dont follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you'll never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, price will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than its worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen...

sashimi!

it's been a loooong time since we actually pigged out... and so the 4 of us headed for some real good sushi time on a midweek wednesday! =)

everytime we hang out, i learn something new. tis time it's a new word: YONDER. according to teacher lim, yonder = yawn and wonder. go ahead! wow your frens with this big word. =p

well, bill = $97.18... if each plate cost $2, we are supposed to finish 50 plates. which i tink we really accomplish in no time. after all, weiwei and i downed 15 plates on our own before ad and mimi arrived. haha!

our reward for making it thus far? mochi and strawberries!

some final shots! before we embarked on our stroll down the deserted robinson road to digest the sashimi swimming down the oesophagus.oh and this is our journey of digestion... 1.9km in all. lesson learned: NOT to eat too much in future. hah.

our oasis

the neighbors...
*simply thrilled at the thought of our haven (complete with the swimming pool!)*

the 1 month old mrs wang

they say married people dun really care about their looks. they're right. i finally took the plunge to chop off my fringe. hence the silly looking hair style. my 1-month anniversary treat. ha it's pretty weird to start the counter from scratch considering that we're after all together for a whooping good 7 years.

WYSIWYG

lately, there's this problem in the 'create new post' page of blogger. and kuku me took some 2 hours to upload a picture.

thank God for FORUMS! and helpful people around! the solution was actually a ridiculous F5 (i.e. REFRESH)!

i shall link it so that one day if the problem happens again, i noe where to find it! here!

learn something new today:
WYSIWYG (pronounced /ˈwɪziwɪɡ/), is an acronym for What You See Is What You Get, used in computing to describe a system in which content displayed during editing appears very similar to the final output, which might be a printed document, web page, slide presentation or even the lighting for a theatrical event.

WYSIWYG implies a user interface that allows the user to view something very similar to the end result while the document is being created. In general WYSIWYG implies the ability to directly manipulate the layout of a document without having to type or remember names of layout commands.

on tweets and small talk.

it's been a long long time since i've really written something that would prolly spark an upheaval among friends. or those whom i consider friends.

i am getting sick of negative people around me. i thank God for sane people who tweet about faith, hope and love. of cos these very same people sometimes to rant and rave a lil. but at the end of the day, balance is the key of life. so, for all the negative tweets i am reading, why dun u for one moment look at your otherwise pathetic life with a tinge of hope? and even if all seems bleak, do not talk about doing something about it; just DO something about it.

i am getting sick of people who talk/tweet all day long about food, fun, holidays, taking a break. i do appreciate ideas from people who travel the country/world in search of good food, fine dining, and a holiday that's heavenly. but in this day and age, there is no free lunch; do not for one moment think that you can afford to work 1 week and use your 1 week's pay to pay for a holiday the very next week. manage finances well; else they will manage you.

of cos, every now and then, i am very tempted to join in the self sympathising process, and it could be a tough job having to encourage myself. but juz keep in mind:

balance is the key of life.

(self) leadership

When a leader cannot lead himself/herself, the tendency, is that he/she will intimidate/manipulate the workers.

Intimidation is putting fear/guilt to make people do wat you want; manipulation is moving people to your own personal advantage.

Leaders who intimidate will get their security from the insecurity of others.

**********

Do you have such leaders over your lives?
Are you one such leader?

y gO 2 church?

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals.. But I do know this ... They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

emO-nO-mOre

to all the emo-licious pple out there, a golden word of advice (from dr ar bernard):

Our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are but we are responsible for who we become.

What Frozen Treat Are You?

You Are a Popsicle
You are colorful, creative, and expressive.

You are often in your own little world, having the time of your life.

People might be surprised to know that you're actually a bit of a perfectionist.

You like things to be neat and orderly. You can deal with chaos, as long as it's controlled chaos.

PISSED.

usually i am nonchalant abt how other pple lead their lives, or mislead them as a matter of fact.

BUT the moment u step into my boundary and attempt to disrupt my life, i'll be very.. very angry.

for example, having funny phone calls (in the wee hours of the night, in the early hours, when i am having dinner, when i am watching harper's island, etc, etc) to question me and the rest of my cg regarding some things/people that are not even within your control (how much more us).

so, next time, pls dial 999 instead. zzz.

a lil austrian town called...

disclaimer: this is PURELY general /geographical knowledge!
and at no point in time meant to demean anyone!
try to find it!
This Fucking settlement has existed since at least 1070 and is named after a man from the 6th century called Focko. "-ing" is an old Germanic suffix indicating the people of the root word to which it is attached; thus Fucking means "(place of) Focko’s people." The village has a population of 107.

Fucking's most famous feature is a traffic sign with its name on it, beside which tourists often stop to have their photograph taken. It is a commonly stolen street sign. Significant public funds have been spent on replacing the stolen signs.

My Daily Bread...
