the day after a public holiday

i thought that a public holiday in the middle of the week sounded real cool. after all, it denotes a break from the FIVE day workweek.

i was wrong. it's thursday today and i'm in the office feeling like ''why are there 2 mondays this week?!"

and it doesn't help that two of my colleagues are at off-site meetings, while another one is in reservist. that leaves me to suffer the harsh cold from the not-so-smart air conditioning system.

nonetheless, i am indeed counting down to the end of the day. hopefully, the SMRT system will not be as crowded today than any other days. =\

JOY is BMW

managed to also catch the BMW World exhibition in its final moments on sunday!

registration itself was a pretty awkward situation...
staff: "would you like to schedule a test drive with BMW?"
me:
option 1: "erm, i have a driving license but i cant drive!"
option 2: "muz i pay for the car if i get into an accident?"
and i opted for option 3: "better not... ... (with a sheepish smile)"

~arrr! JOY IS BMW!~
~cars galore! they're selling the EXPERIENCE!
and a suspicious pram in the foreground. maybe it's BMW manufactured too...~
~my fav at the moment M3!~
~and this intriguing gotham city lookalike car, which i tink no one in their right frame of mind will ever get one of such cars....~
~even the backside looks weird~
~"i promise i will get a BMW for the Husband! this one..."~
~and finally, one of the street buskers, smarter than the ones at orchard road... after all MBS is sheltered and air conditioned. =)~

cycling at UBIN!

honestly, i havent been to ubin via the proper manner (ie the $2.50 ferry) before. the last time i went which was aeons ago, i was sabo-ed into thinking that a "leadership camp" was all about leading... and while the canoe ride the last time round was fun, it was easier to travel by ferry, ha.i was thankful that i still remembered how to cycle and to keep myself from falling. the skies didnt show favor upon us though and rained shortly after our wild adventurous ride. sought shelter at a nearby near-to-desolate exhibition room. played some games and entertained ourselves for a while.

food at ubin were also not v appetising... zzz. it's a whooping $8 for a plate of seafood (minimal) fried rice! but since we were caught in the rain. too bad. juz had to settle for food and drinks.
~the very garang ladies~
~the men!~
~a pic we muz always take when there are alot of us and when we have nothing to do~

You Are Funshine Bear

You are extremely playful and fun loving. You love to goof around and tell jokes.

You don't take anything seriously, and you feel like most people are too somber.

You remind others that life should be celebrated. You bring the party with you.

You are hilarious and a kick to be around. Good times always start with you.

dream a lil dream!

You are a Dreamer
You tend to have your head in the clouds. You love to be drawn in to a whole other world.

You are a sensitive person. You find it easy to be emotionally effected by books.

You are a person with many different interests. You are fascinated by everything in the world.

You are a person who loves to acquire possessions. You can't resist a sale, and you own a lot of things.

I *heart* my mommy!

Went back home for awhile today... And mommy bought me THREE boxes of bird's nest! Bread for breakfast tmr which I totally forgot to bring back... And a Hello Kitty cushion! Yay!

Lose weight? Sleep more!

Excerpted from the Straits Times:

WASHINGTON - DIETERS looking to shed more fat and feel less hungry while they do it may benefit from a few more hours in bed, according to a new study.

Dieters lost the same amount of weight whether they slept for a full night or fewer hours, but those who got more sleep lost more fat and they also felt less hungry while awake, according to the study, which appears in the Oct 5 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine.

'If your goal is to lose fat, skipping sleep is like poking sticks in your bicycle wheels,' said Plamen Penev, an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Chicago and the director of the study.

'Cutting back on sleep, a behavior that is ubiquitous in modern society, appears to compromise efforts to lose fat through dieting. In our study it reduced fat loss by 55 per cent,' Mr Penev added.

The study, undertaken by the University of Chicago's General Clinical Resource Center, tracked 10 overweight but healthy volunteers aged 35 to 49.

The participants had body mass indexes ranging from 25, which is considered overweight, to 32, which is considered obese.

See?! I'm right about sleeping more!!!!!

碰!

whenever there's an outing with ong laylay, or dear daniel, there's bound to be... MAHJONG! ha...

so glad to finally make it for the dinner outing at cyn's (not so) new place at far far punggol. i swear if i roll a tad too fast, i might land at the sea.

it was a mad rush from jwest (where i muz say, STUFFS happened, sigh) to ulu ulu punggol. thank God for ronald who was kind enough to pick me up from marina sq en route to punggol! (incidentally, he was the same kind soul who fetched me back in the heavy rain in the wee hours of the morning!) luvya, neighbor!

oh, back to the dinner, cyn cooked curry and fried bee hoon and we were kinda supposed to celebrate her bday, since ALL of us knew it was her bday the day after. i poked around and assumed that the cake in the fridge was for us to cut. NAH. i was wrong. i guessed dan and lili drove to compasspoint to get the cake...
oh and this happened to be taken while dan and lili went out to get the cake. thank you both! wilson is the 稀客here man!
alright, back to mahjong... i muz say, they bet BIG. playing with the big players, i feel stressed. and that prolly explained the major outbreak on my face the day after. (together with the new role at work + the spate of events in cg of cos) truly, i tink i am getting too old for the stay-up-overnight thingy...

so... no more mahjong for the next 2 years. haha... MISS THE BUNCH OF WINDSURFERS! we rock!

BMW

Tis week has been such a memorable week by far, I have to pen it down!

And yes, the amount of $ I'm spending on public transport alone is more than wat I'll spend in an entire other month, or quarter I dare say.

The Husband was set for reservist (I call it a twanging session) and I made it to work on my own for the past 3 days! And by public transport, I do NOT mean the Taxi.

And I'm proud of myself! Frugal Glad is making a comeback!! Yay!!

(btw, BMW = bus, mrt, walk)

slow me down...

"Slow me down, LORD,
Ease the pounding of my heart
by the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace with a vision
of the eternal reach of time.
Give me, amid the confusion of the day,
the calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tensions of my nerves and
muscles with the soothing music of the
singing streams that live in my memory.
Help me to know the magical, restoring power of sleep.
Teach me the art of taking minute vacations of slowing down
to look at a flower, to chat with a friend, to pat a dog,
to read a few
lines from a good book.
Slow me down, Lord, and inspire me to
send my roots deep into the soil of life's
enduring values that I may grow
toward the stars of my greater destiny."

home security innovations

here's the most hilarious ones of the 11...
check out the rest here.

How to feel Miserable

... as an artist, or as yourself.

Good is the enemy of Great

if there's something i've caught over the weekend, it has to be CHANGE.
in Jim Collins' book entitled , he talks about why some companies (and i would say, individuals too) make the leap... and others don't.

in his opinion, the 7 characteristics of companies that went from Good to Great has to be:
  • Level 5 Leadership: Leaders who are humble, but driven to do what's best for the company.
  • First Who, Then What: Get the right people on the bus, then figure out where to go. Finding the right people and trying them out in different positions.
  • Confront the Brutal Facts: The Stockdale paradox - Confront the brutal truth of the situation, yet at the same time, never give up hope.
  • Hedgehog Concept: Three overlapping circles: What makes you money? What could you be best in the world at? and What lights your fire?
  • Culture of Discipline: Rinsing the cottage cheese.
  • Technology Accelerators: Using technology to accelerate growth, within the three circles of the hedgehog concept.
  • The Flywheel: The additive effect of many small initiatives; they act on each other like compound interest.

are you moving from good to great? Needa Change.

Time

Overheard a conversation in a crowded train... "Quality time is spent outside, not at home."

Not being in context doesn't issue me the right to decide whether wat he said was right or wrong.

Retrospectively, I do spend little time at home. Ok I meant LITTLE.

On the average I reach home around 10pm almost every day? If I leave for work at 830 and I spend 8 hours sleeping... I've effectively 2 active hours at home. Gosh.

Needa change.

Membership Weekend

Yes! And finally, the long awaited membership promotion for some of us.

To be honest, the status of being a ministry member or to even hold that membership card ain't so impt after all.

Wat really counts, I suppose, would be the heart of a true disciple, a servant of all. And I pray that all of us will not forsake the first love for our Lord Jesus. :)

In the meantime... Congratulations! And happy busking in the joy!

One last chance

If u were given only one last chance before it's too late (for anything else), would u rather be told so that u'll give of your best? Or shouldn't we be always giving of our best all the time?

One last chance, is all we've got.

friends or foes?

Self-evaluation maintenance theory refers to discrepancies between two people in a relationship. Two people in a relationship each aim to keep themselves feeling good psychologically throughout a comparison process to the other person.

Self-evaluation is defined as the way a person views him/herself. It is the continuous process of determining personal growth and progress, which can be raised or lowered by the behavior of a close other (a person that is psychologically close). People are more threatened by friends than strangers.

**********

I watched Desperate Housewives last night. In it, there was this absurd comparison of children's ability between Gabrielle and Susan. Well, don't we all experience such similar incidents every now and then?

I too heard about a friend getting married. To me, it was a fairy tale wedding come true. But with every dream wedding comes along a friend (or so you think) who will compare herself to you, aiming to make herself feel better/superior. It isn't exactly malicious, but won't the world be a better place that we learn to esteem and exhort others? Especially that of friends. =)

**********

"Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." ~Phil 2~
