the best of Genting 2010

while the entire world flocked to singapore to witness the grand opening of Resorts World Sentosa, we chose to emigrate out of the island to Resorts World Genting instead. and here's our landing pad...=D
really, this place doesnt change in a zillion years. except well, maybe the weather. brother earth is not feeling too well lately.. having fits and fevers in every parts of the world. hazy at home, and warm here. i used to be dashing back to the hotel lobby the moment i stepped into open air, now i can wear shorts. =(

well, it doesnt matter whether u are 3 or 30, u will enjoy the rides all the same! for the not-so-adventurous, let's juz start with the caterpillar ride. haha, the name pretty much explains the speed of the ride. =S
and for the adventurous (like ME!), try the roller coaster! not this one though. the sight of a repairman at the top of the tracks, kinda reminded me of Final Destination 3. so.. nono for tis one.
after a sizeable amounts of rides (enough to breakeven our admission fees), we headed for some old-folks activities. wat to do, i aint young anymore, cant always be playing rides. so off to my fav STARBUCKS we go, to la kopi! hahaha! and lotsa food too.
and finally, to rest our legs, this is ITCHY with full CAPS i tell u.. small fish is bad enough, kudos to all those tried the big fish! scary! (can u see!
on a side note, the TOKYO SKYDIVING TEAM was in Genting too. i wonder if they need to take a coach/cable car down the mountain, they can juz skydive. hehe.
oh, and the 3 GOOD MEN, i heard them sing live, they are really good. happened to be tis:

the world of louis vuitton

yay! hubby bot me a LV! real! airflown! from milan!

come to think of it... it was pretty rash of me to get tis yea? i change wallets every now and then, but i cant afford to change tis every now and then right? hmm i need to use it for a 10 good years, to armotize the value to... $75 a year. zzz.
nonetheless, i am elated! and tis will prolly keep me occupied for ahem, a few months, before i eye the next big thing. heh.

work it out, baby!

over the same weekend, tenant#1 moved out of our house... well, he left behind some stuffs (like a whole load of rubbish, and an absolut vodka), and spoiled some too. =(

and so, we moved into the "chalet" to stay over the weekend. woke up on a sunday for a morning swim, headed to mcD at ridout tea garden for breakfast (so UP can!) and den went back to wait for the enthusiastic gymaholics, 3 of them to be exact.

~guess who!~
while they hogged the threadmills, i headed for another swim. finally ended the day with duck rice at pioneer followed by a happy AGM. =)

LIFE IS GOOD.

arise & build

over the weekend, we took the opportunity to play some games! i muz say that this build the track game is pretty fun... would love to play it again if there's a chance!

mel makes me happy!

the 重点 here is: I AM 21 YEARS OLD!!! wahhahaha.... see? if u say it long enough, it shall be established as FACT.

earthquake moved the earth!

The massive earthquake that struck the west coast of Chile last month moved the whole city of Concepcion at least 10 feet (3 meters) to the west, scientists say. It also shifted other parts of South America that are far removed from the center of the disturbance.

another quizzy... too simple to be true...

You Are Bright and Cheerful

You're the type of person who always has something to smile about. If the sun is shining and the birds are singing, that's enough for you.

Other people find you to be a breath of fresh air. You have a childlike innocence that others lack.

You like to make other people smile, and you're likely to say something to lighten the mood.

You want to be a joy to be around, and you try to keep your problems and worries to yourself.

*rOar*

You Are a Lion
You are a highly charged, emotional person. You are very restless and energetic.

You tend to be moody and a bit impulsive. It's easy for something or someone to get under your skin.

You are quick to take action. You act on your intuition, and you're always ready to get going.

You are very sensitive and even a bit touchy. You have a pretty frightening temper.

"pretty frightening" is an understatement. let me reiterate: Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

suntec city

every now and then, we need to remind ourselves that miracles do happen. =)

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Pros of moving to Suntec

1. It's a 5 min bus ride / train ride from my place! -> I'll not be late for svc!
2. I'm walking distance away from Starbucks! and Topshop & MNG & Zara & etc! -> It's ahem near to the marketplace? :p
3. Friends will not say it's too far east / west when I invite them to church! (Mel, I'm talking abt you.)

What more can I ask for? :)

Church to co-own Suntec

Amid cheers from the congregation, City Harvest Church (CHC) yesterday announced that it will pay $310 million to become a co-owner of Suntec Singapore, a prime piece of downtown real estate.

Senior pastor Kong Hee broke the news first at CHC's service at its Jurong West building, then later at another service at the Singapore Expo in Changi.

He said CHC had acquired a 'substantial stake in a consortium company that owns 80 per cent of a joint venture fund that owns Suntec Singapore'.

The complex's full name is Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The $310 million includes the cost of acquiring shares in the consortium, rental costs, renovation costs and others.

Suntec Singapore was acquired by ARA Asset Management through the ARA Harmony Fund last year, with its investors comprising Suntec Reit - which holds 20 per cent - and a consortium company which holds 80 per cent.

This has been the best kept secret in the church's 21-year history, and by far the best piece of news in 2010. =)

Remember...

Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car and I dented it?
I thought you'd kill me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I dragged you to the beach and you said it would rain, and it did?
I thought you'd say, "I told you so." But you didn't.

Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you jealous, and you were?
I thought you'd leave me, but you didn't.

Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie all over your car rug?
I thought you'd hit me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal and you showed up in Jeans?
I thought you'd drop me, but you didn't.

Yes, there were lots of things you didn't do.
But you put up with me, and you loved me, and you protected me.

There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you when you returned from Vietnam.
But you didn't.

cloud computing

(Excerpted from Wikipedia)

Cloud computing is a way of computing, via the Internet, that broadly shares computer resources instead of having your local Personal Computer handle specific applications.

It is an Internet- ("cloud-") based development and use of computer technology ("computing").[1]

In concept, it is a paradigm shift whereby details are abstracted from the users who no longer have need of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them.[2] Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves the provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources as a service over the Internet.[3][4]

The term cloud is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on the cloud drawing used to depict the Internet in computer network diagrams as an abstraction of the underlying infrastructure it represents.[5] Typical cloud computing providers deliver common business applications online which are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on servers.

A technical definition is "a computing capability that provides an abstraction between the computing resource and its underlying technical architecture (e.g., servers, storage, networks), enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction."[6] This definition states that clouds have five essential characteristics: on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service.[6]

The majority of cloud computing infrastructure, as of 2009, consists of reliable services delivered through data centers and built on servers. Clouds often appear as single points of access for all consumers' computing needs. Commercial offerings are generally expected to meet quality of service (QoS) requirements of customers and typically offer SLAs.[7]

gladys' soliloquy

Human life is complex and at the same time simple. It is same as the flower, fragrant as well as thorn sharp and honey, sweet but also bitter. For most of the people life is often like a pinball game, passing trough narrow pathways, hitting at the sharp edges and falling deep down to unknown gulfs of dents. Dilemmas call in the lives one over another to make life on earth more and more intolerable. At this point anyone may possibly think in line with renowned writer Shakespeare that "Life is as tedious as a twice-told tale, vexing the dull ear of a drowsy man" or "Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

it's my evil sister's birthday!

omg, i hate to admit it, but i do look like my evil sister. ahem, except that i look kinder, and i AM kinder. hahaha.
so, every year tis time, i dread having any form of contact with the evil sister. she constantly bugs you for bday presents (and almost all the time, unsuccessfully too, haha!)

tis year, mommy has volunteered to organise a dinner, with grandaunt, and erm, aunty. aiya, let's juz say we are relatives, complicated to get the proper salutation. oh i was wrong abt the organise dinner part. it was nowhere near an organised one!!!!

first of all, the three old folks happily lazed around at home while we reached and queued up for seats. zzz. as if the three of US look like 8 people. $)%)%^*)($#^&)(#%$)$. mommy was nowhere near tampines, and she does not have the contact numbers to locate grannyaunt!

thankfully, all things work together for kiasu and fierce looking evil sister. the waitress muz have sensed thunderstorm approaching, and kindly allowed us into the restaurant even without the full attendance of people.

and these are the fruits of our waiting! i *heart* ginger chicken! ginger is good!
oh, tis is my 'lost-count' yusheng. for once, the fish are VISIBLE. whoo hoo! and it's superlicious salmon!
well, happy birthday evil sister... hmm, if this satisfies u, here's your present --->
BOTH iphone and iTouch also give u ah! wahhaha!

Don’t eat like a tiger
Many of the festive treats are high in sugar and fat. Some of these snacks can even contain calories similar to a small meal. Hence, you should consume them in moderation and/or increase your physical activity level to prevent unwanted weight gain.
You can use the following tips to help moderate your intake of festive treats:
  • Limit your intake by portioning out the festive treats in a small plate.
  • Choose to consume more fresh fruit such as mandarin oranges and less of festive treats.
  • Share your festive treats with your friends and relatives

alex mcQUEEN no more. =(

“ On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family.

Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.

Ooh and sebastian helped us peel a couple of oranges on the spot too. Didn't make a mistake getting him to join the orange peeling competition.

of friends and friendship

and to my friends who have inspired my life in one way or another, tis especially for you. =)

**********

There are days when bubbling from us
comes the innocent child within,
who giggles at the little things
and wears a silly grin.

There are days when
melancholy comes to visit for a while;
the mind feels tired, the body weak;
we have no strength to smile.

There are days when joy abundant
grabs a hold of you and me;
wraps us up in all it's splendor,
lifts us up and sets us free.

There are days when sorrow
wraps us in its cloak of grief and fear,
'till our hearts ache to the breaking,
'till our eyes can't shed a tear.

There are days when love
bestows us with its wonderment and light;
with its beauty and its mystery,
its power and its might.

And there are days when life
rewards us and seems to make amends
by granting us a marvelous gift,
the precious gift of Friends.

l.o.v.e

Love, like a tree,
sends its roots down deep
so when the storms of life abound
and the winds of adversity blow,
it shakes and bends
and goes with the flow
but doesn't break or fall.
And during times of drought
it drives its roots down deeper
so whatever comes and goes –
summer, winter, spring or fall,
the good times and the bad –
it stands the test of all.

Shanghai Tang...

Spent slightly less than half an afternoon in the cheongsum store of the crowded bugis street...

Well, there were really some cheesy looking cheongsums, but some classic ones too... Need it for the WYZ thanksgiving, or rather CNY, dinner.

To buy or not to buy, that's the question...

Question #2: anyone has a cheongsum for loan?!?!?!

it's a new day... it's a new world...

NEW YEAR'S DAY 2010!

oh yes, and the very old ME was very reluctant to hang out at the usual joints, the usual happening venues... wat to do, age is catching up with me. ha!

and so, we opted for this peaceful, breezy walk along the East Coast Parkway. even so, the pubs along the ECP were pretty packed! dinner was at Carl's Jr and i felt happy already looking at the smiley star..
oh, our version of the fireworks were these tiny red stuffs they fired up to the skies, i suppose during times of SOS (and celebrations?). can anyone tell me wat they are actually called? they're pretty and every now and then, the ships fired some more up into the sky to keep them lit for some 15 min or so.

erm, obviously cant see from my not-so-spectacular-iphone-camera. but with the BF coming up, i suppose the DSLR has gotta wait. =(

MIA?

i've been told that i am neglecting my blog lately. the truth is, i've been busy (as usual) with many events, things, anniversaries, birthdays, deaths. so much so that in a blinking of an eye, january is almost over.

nonetheless, i am fully subscribed to the notion that 2010 is gonna be the best year yet, for me and those around me! =)

and in the meantime, let me gather my thoughts before i really pen them down. =)

stay tuned!

the bane of technology. namely (re)tweeter.

Twitter is simply a micro blogging service. Meaning that you can write short updates of 140 characters maximum called "tweets" and send them out to your followers or contacts.

Retweet on the other hand means that When someone re-tweets you, they are giving you the highest compliment you can get on Twitter by sharing your post or what you said with their own followers or contacts.

Having said that, it's pretty irritating to see some TWENTY people retweet the SAME update. Makes me wonder if I should just follow YOU instead of the original inspiration. zzzzzzzzz.

of car parks, charges and complaints

Resolution #3 reads in short: SAVE MONEY.

and in line with my 2010 resolution, i am determined to save $$$ every where i go! so we headed to DOWNTOWN EAST for a movie, cos:
1. it's cathay and tix cost $6!
2. parking is... let's juz call it affordable.

BUT to my greatest disappointment, the EPS read $3.21 per entry on exit!!!! that meant that our movie cost $6 + $6 + $3.21 = $15.21! (not that it's more expensive than norm, but still!!!!!)

anyhow, i checked out the website to see if i've really been cheated. and while the page was loading, i have already drafted THE complaint letter, so that if my verifications are confirmed, i shall send out the email (high importance, return receipt CHECKED) immediately!

and tadah~! here are the charges!
see!!!! $2.14/entry!! and in order not to malign innocent parties, i called up downtown east.

Operator: Hi! + the formalities...
Me: Check with u, the parking rates for a Monday after 6pm is $2.14/entry (trying very hard not to sound like a cheapo neighborhood aunty)
Operator: Erm, no. it's $3.21.
ME (sounding victorious): But the website says $2.14!
Operator: when did you come in?
ME (sounding even more victorious): 28 December!
Operator: Oh Mdm, it's still school holidays right? school holidays are $3.21 per entry.
(and i am pretty sure he muz be thinking i AM the cheapo neighborhood aunty. zzz.)
ME: OH... ... ... ... ... ... ... (hoping the phone line will juz cut off.)

WELL, in any case, i shall remember NOT to go to downtown east during SCHOOL HOLIDAYS! zzz.zzz.

shOpahOlic turns tech saavy...

looks like competition is indeed heating up, with the new Nexus One entering the market to bite off a share of the mobile phone pie!

conclusion: for now, i shall be good and stick to my Apple, the better of the battle of the fruits. (read: even if i wan to get the Nexus One... it's a whopping US$529!)

my resolute resolutions for 2010

every year i make new year's resolutions that sound nearly impossible. i enjoy the challenge of putting a goal in front of me that at the beginning of the year seems entirely ridiculous, but at the end of the year seems completely doable, and most of the time, with the grace of God.

randomly...
  1. i will fast and pray, read my Bible and talk to God more often. =)
  2. i shall spend more time with the Family.
  3. i am supposed to be making my money spent at the gym worthwhile, while eating less in order to achieve that unachievable Victoria Secrets model size. So, cut down on wats needed to be cut and up the healthy food!
  4. i shall manage disappointments the same way i handle anger, count to 10 (or sometimes to 100). well, at least understand that as much as i have to be accountable for those placed under me, i definitely do not decide the way they lead their lives.
  5. i will come to work on time. =(
  6. we will get a new home! and inspired by my beloved boss, i shall attempt to save half of my salary! (this belongs to one of those resolutions i call "entirely ridiculous")
  7. i am so gonna pamper myself with the time wasting manicures/spas/short trips/rest n relax. it's soul time in 2010!
  8. and finally, should i pick up a new hobby?
have u decided on your resolutions yet? start today! =)

make the NEW YEAR count.

wishes all my frens & loved ones a blessed & prosperous 2010! :) on Twitpic
Paul wrote, "One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Here's wishing all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. Obviously, the past is behind us. We can't undo it even if we wanted to, but we can start the New Year with hope and purpose, keeping in mind the words of Minnie Haskins who said, "And I said to the one who stood at the gate of the year, 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the Unknown.' And he replied, 'Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.'

I couldn't think of a better way to start the New Year and, with God's help. Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you've always wanted to do but couldn't find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you don't think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You'll look ten years younger. Don't be afraid to say, 'I love you.' Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world.

As each year rapidly passes, I'm becoming more aware of the fact that life is short for all of us. So be sure to make 2010 an investment in eternal values knowing that, in the words of the poet, we have "Only one life 'twill soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last."

2009

on this last day of 2009, here i sit wondering why there aint a half day granted from my not-so-gracious office. =s

as i revisit 2009, it was indeed a good year.. and of all, here are some of the memorable ones:
1. my P plate can finally be taken off and returned to weiwei! yay!
2. i turned into a 21 year old mrs. i am young, steel!
3. started doing much more stuffs at work (shall not venture there though, kpo eyes are watching my blog)
4. finally finally finally got my 3G(s) phone, with a dataplan and i am officially forever online. wahaha.
