BMW

Tis week has been such a memorable week by far, I have to pen it down!

And yes, the amount of $ I'm spending on public transport alone is more than wat I'll spend in an entire other month, or quarter I dare say.

The Husband was set for reservist (I call it a twanging session) and I made it to work on my own for the past 3 days! And by public transport, I do NOT mean the Taxi.

And I'm proud of myself! Frugal Glad is making a comeback!! Yay!!

(btw, BMW = bus, mrt, walk)

slow me down...

"Slow me down, LORD,
Ease the pounding of my heart
by the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace with a vision
of the eternal reach of time.
Give me, amid the confusion of the day,
the calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tensions of my nerves and
muscles with the soothing music of the
singing streams that live in my memory.
Help me to know the magical, restoring power of sleep.
Teach me the art of taking minute vacations of slowing down
to look at a flower, to chat with a friend, to pat a dog,
to read a few
lines from a good book.
Slow me down, Lord, and inspire me to
send my roots deep into the soil of life's
enduring values that I may grow
toward the stars of my greater destiny."

home security innovations

here's the most hilarious ones of the 11...
check out the rest here.

How to feel Miserable

... as an artist, or as yourself.

Good is the enemy of Great

if there's something i've caught over the weekend, it has to be CHANGE.
in Jim Collins' book entitled , he talks about why some companies (and i would say, individuals too) make the leap... and others don't.

in his opinion, the 7 characteristics of companies that went from Good to Great has to be:
  • Level 5 Leadership: Leaders who are humble, but driven to do what's best for the company.
  • First Who, Then What: Get the right people on the bus, then figure out where to go. Finding the right people and trying them out in different positions.
  • Confront the Brutal Facts: The Stockdale paradox - Confront the brutal truth of the situation, yet at the same time, never give up hope.
  • Hedgehog Concept: Three overlapping circles: What makes you money? What could you be best in the world at? and What lights your fire?
  • Culture of Discipline: Rinsing the cottage cheese.
  • Technology Accelerators: Using technology to accelerate growth, within the three circles of the hedgehog concept.
  • The Flywheel: The additive effect of many small initiatives; they act on each other like compound interest.

are you moving from good to great? Needa Change.

Time

Overheard a conversation in a crowded train... "Quality time is spent outside, not at home."

Not being in context doesn't issue me the right to decide whether wat he said was right or wrong.

Retrospectively, I do spend little time at home. Ok I meant LITTLE.

On the average I reach home around 10pm almost every day? If I leave for work at 830 and I spend 8 hours sleeping... I've effectively 2 active hours at home. Gosh.

Needa change.

Membership Weekend

Yes! And finally, the long awaited membership promotion for some of us.

To be honest, the status of being a ministry member or to even hold that membership card ain't so impt after all.

Wat really counts, I suppose, would be the heart of a true disciple, a servant of all. And I pray that all of us will not forsake the first love for our Lord Jesus. :)

In the meantime... Congratulations! And happy busking in the joy!

One last chance

If u were given only one last chance before it's too late (for anything else), would u rather be told so that u'll give of your best? Or shouldn't we be always giving of our best all the time?

One last chance, is all we've got.

shopaholic Cambodia

aint i glad that there is at least a night market to shop during holidays. not juz one but 3 side by side! there aint many things to buy though. all in all, i would say that the people are proud of their local goods, and i am humbled by the experience.
and it will do the floating markets no justice if i dun give them any mention! juz imagine a pasar malam in broad daylight, afloat on the waters.

friends or foes?

Self-evaluation maintenance theory refers to discrepancies between two people in a relationship. Two people in a relationship each aim to keep themselves feeling good psychologically throughout a comparison process to the other person.

Self-evaluation is defined as the way a person views him/herself. It is the continuous process of determining personal growth and progress, which can be raised or lowered by the behavior of a close other (a person that is psychologically close). People are more threatened by friends than strangers.

**********

I watched Desperate Housewives last night. In it, there was this absurd comparison of children's ability between Gabrielle and Susan. Well, don't we all experience such similar incidents every now and then?

I too heard about a friend getting married. To me, it was a fairy tale wedding come true. But with every dream wedding comes along a friend (or so you think) who will compare herself to you, aiming to make herself feel better/superior. It isn't exactly malicious, but won't the world be a better place that we learn to esteem and exhort others? Especially that of friends. =)

**********

"Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." ~Phil 2~

history revealed

Pol Pot's infamous extermination centre, through the entrance of which passed about 16,000 victims, lies off a quiet, dusty side street in the southern suburbs of Cambodia's bustling river port capital, Phnom Penh. Khmer know the old French lycee as Tuol Sleng, or Hill of Poisoned Trees.

A sign that tells tourists that it's not very wise to be laughing away in the premises. But with history so grim, who would have such audacity to invoke the spirits of those who died violently without a proper Buddhist burial, or so they believe.
From the moment you arrived as a prisoner at S-21, your rights and responsibilities were made painfully clear by a set of ten standing orders. These rules dictated how you acted, how you responded to questioning, and how you had no choice but to accept the fact that you were a traitor and would be treated as such.
In the prison courtyard stood a large wooden frame once used by students for gymnastics practice. The Khmer Rouge converted it into gallows for the hanging torture and execution of prisoners.

here, ending your own life seemed like the easiest way to go, but sadly, it is not an option.

The knowledge of what happened at S-21 makes a visit to the complex of scruffy three-storey buildings set around the old school playground a wrenching experience.

LALA croft: the tomb raider

the start of my holiday! nope, not to the relics immediately, but right smack in the middle of my hotel lies a replica of the tomb walls. cool yea.Ta Prohm - made famous by the legendary lara croft. the part where lara picked up a jasmine flower, and falling down the hole in the ground... straight into the Studios.
i never seem to escape climbing. ok not this, but this. equally scary.
at long last! finally a pic more decent. if u noticed, i was in heels. yes, to climb the Angkor Wat.
by now, if u still dun believe i was there to make a movie, u should see this man. really.maybe i am not cut out to be so adventurous after all: i nearly got stuck between the grills... forever.... zzz.unglam shot. never to be published ever again!
ending the day with good ol' meditation facing uncle smiley face.
i love xoxo as much as weiwei loves kissing Mr Mao from Beijing!
well, raiding the tombs has gotta be the happiest event during the trip. not that the rest of the activities are dreadful, but the immense hurt faced by the Cambodians during the Khmer Rouge government (i'd call it a coup though) is still being felt by the generations to come, residents and visitors alike. =(
