shopaholic Cambodia

aint i glad that there is at least a night market to shop during holidays. not juz one but 3 side by side! there aint many things to buy though. all in all, i would say that the people are proud of their local goods, and i am humbled by the experience.
and it will do the floating markets no justice if i dun give them any mention! juz imagine a pasar malam in broad daylight, afloat on the waters.

friends or foes?

Self-evaluation maintenance theory refers to discrepancies between two people in a relationship. Two people in a relationship each aim to keep themselves feeling good psychologically throughout a comparison process to the other person.

Self-evaluation is defined as the way a person views him/herself. It is the continuous process of determining personal growth and progress, which can be raised or lowered by the behavior of a close other (a person that is psychologically close). People are more threatened by friends than strangers.

**********

I watched Desperate Housewives last night. In it, there was this absurd comparison of children's ability between Gabrielle and Susan. Well, don't we all experience such similar incidents every now and then?

I too heard about a friend getting married. To me, it was a fairy tale wedding come true. But with every dream wedding comes along a friend (or so you think) who will compare herself to you, aiming to make herself feel better/superior. It isn't exactly malicious, but won't the world be a better place that we learn to esteem and exhort others? Especially that of friends. =)

**********

"Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." ~Phil 2~

history revealed

Pol Pot's infamous extermination centre, through the entrance of which passed about 16,000 victims, lies off a quiet, dusty side street in the southern suburbs of Cambodia's bustling river port capital, Phnom Penh. Khmer know the old French lycee as Tuol Sleng, or Hill of Poisoned Trees.

A sign that tells tourists that it's not very wise to be laughing away in the premises. But with history so grim, who would have such audacity to invoke the spirits of those who died violently without a proper Buddhist burial, or so they believe.
From the moment you arrived as a prisoner at S-21, your rights and responsibilities were made painfully clear by a set of ten standing orders. These rules dictated how you acted, how you responded to questioning, and how you had no choice but to accept the fact that you were a traitor and would be treated as such.
In the prison courtyard stood a large wooden frame once used by students for gymnastics practice. The Khmer Rouge converted it into gallows for the hanging torture and execution of prisoners.

here, ending your own life seemed like the easiest way to go, but sadly, it is not an option.

The knowledge of what happened at S-21 makes a visit to the complex of scruffy three-storey buildings set around the old school playground a wrenching experience.

LALA croft: the tomb raider

the start of my holiday! nope, not to the relics immediately, but right smack in the middle of my hotel lies a replica of the tomb walls. cool yea.Ta Prohm - made famous by the legendary lara croft. the part where lara picked up a jasmine flower, and falling down the hole in the ground... straight into the Studios.
i never seem to escape climbing. ok not this, but this. equally scary.
at long last! finally a pic more decent. if u noticed, i was in heels. yes, to climb the Angkor Wat.
by now, if u still dun believe i was there to make a movie, u should see this man. really.maybe i am not cut out to be so adventurous after all: i nearly got stuck between the grills... forever.... zzz.unglam shot. never to be published ever again!
ending the day with good ol' meditation facing uncle smiley face.
i love xoxo as much as weiwei loves kissing Mr Mao from Beijing!
well, raiding the tombs has gotta be the happiest event during the trip. not that the rest of the activities are dreadful, but the immense hurt faced by the Cambodians during the Khmer Rouge government (i'd call it a coup though) is still being felt by the generations to come, residents and visitors alike. =(

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. What does it mean to you?

There're this 10 rules for respect someone once promised to live by, and it too kinda intrigued me as I walk through life and realise that such rules of those who have "been there, done that" will save you from unnecessary heartaches.

Here are his rules:

1. If you have a problem with me, come to me (privately).
2. If I have a problem with you, I’ll come to you (privately).
3. If someone has a problem with me and comes to you, send them to me. (I’ll do the same for you.)
4. If someone consistently will not come to me, say, “Let’s go see him together.” (I’ll do the same for you.)
5. Be careful how you interpret me. On matters that are unclear, do not feel pressured to interpret my feelings or thoughts. It is easy to misinterpret intentions.
6. I will be careful how I interpret you.
7. If it’s confidential, don’t tell. If anyone comes to me in confidence, I won’t tell unless (a) the person is going to harm him/herself; (b) the person is going to physically harm someone else; (c) a child has been physically or sexually abused. I expect the same from you.
8. I do not read unsigned letters or notes.
9. I do not manipulate; I will not be manipulated. Do not let others manipulate you; do not let others try to manipulate me through you.
10. When in doubt, just say it. If I can answer without misrepresenting something or breaking a confidence, I will.

Most people greatly desire the respect of their leaders. And when leaders give it freely, I believe it creates a very positive relational environment. As author Alfred Glasow said, “The respect of those you respect is worth more than the applause of the multitude.”

What does RESPECT mean to u?

The other day I read an entry off someone's blog, and he took it off someone else's blog too, simply cos he was too impacted by the entry.

So here I am making a mental note that I should be hunting for it once I get my hands on a comp, or an iPhone battery booster for that matter (gonna be out the whole day today)

So, what does respect mean to u?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHC!

i can't believe it! CHC is 21!

i've been in this place for the longest time... say, 11 years? nah, it's not the duration that counts, what really matters is, this is HOME.

i've learned, i've loved, i've been hurt (yes, tis aint exactly the most perfect place, but then again, where is?), i've grown up, but most importantly, i'm still here. i can't be more thankful for the leaders over my life. they taught me what it means to love, unconditionally.

over the weekend, we went for Festival of Praise for 2 consecutive nights, and managed to wake up early for the anniversary svc. i am still young! and proud of mama and papa too! they're in the Q even before me!

HOW AWESOME IS THIS PLACE. THE GATE OF HEAVEN.

we won!

i have to say, life's not always bleak in the office.

entered into a green initiative quiz at the end of last month, and guess wat! we both won! early bird prizes!

it goes to show one thing: we are VERY aunty. "everything muz win!" (but ad is more AUNTY than me, so she came in third!)

FOOD!

tadah~! here's my foodie folder! let me know if the link doesnt work! am trying out the html/image thingy..

JAY CHOU WORLD TOUR!

remember this?
the hand is back again! with a vengeance! ha!
this time, with more PROPS! hahha! the big blow up clap clap! (i stoopidly tot that muz blow with the mouth manually de lo!)
and my fav! the light stick!
incidentally, the police outside SIS also have something lidat... do they recycle the light sticks after concerts?
**********

how could i even forget uploading some pics from the JAY CHOU WORLD TOUR?!

arrrr! he's so talented *screams!* albeit the fact that he does mumble in his songs once in a while, there was really a huge improvement from the times of 双节棍。。。

and how could anyone even comment/criticise that he's unprofessional by using HUGE chorus boards? i think its ok ah! and i have deluded-ly insisted that he sang the following... FOR ME. hahaha!

COLORFUL SPECIAL EFFECTS!
anyone game for the another of the world tour? taipei or KL. haha.

SURELY it's not too late!

it's surely not too late to celebrate a birthday, much less to upload photos! ha!

it's SURELY's bday celebration at KBox! we had a tiny room for the few of us, furbished with a CRT TV (i mean, who on earth uses CRT TVs nowadays?!?) but since, it's $8 NETT and we were simply too kiam siap to head to the new Kbox at *Scape, we settled for ahem, less.

well, the only pics worth uploading should be the bday present! PRETTY calender of JAY CHOU! airflown!
and of cos me, attempting to murder surely so that i can get hold of the calender. haha!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SURELY!

My Daily Bread...
